I developed feelings for Barnes and Noble in the fall of 2008 in Park Slope. I worked till 10 pm, and the store almost next door closed at 11. I didn’t want to go home immediately and stayed there for at least another half an hour. That was the time when I fell in love with bookstores at night. The night is when you have no strength to pretend you are happy… I was tired, numb, hungry & dizzy from fatigue. When people in America (or maybe elsewhere) ask how your day was, they rarely want to hear that you are exhausted from the American Dream. Even writing this I think to myself how dare I…?!! Isn’t social media for sharing happiness not your innermost tiresome moments? No… those are the moments one shares with books.
