What’s Justin Timberlake bringing back this time? Stars from the aughts with DWIs. The category of “those other boys who don’t know how to act” now includes him. Timberlake was arrested in the Hamptons on June 18 for driving while intoxicated, Sag Harbor police confirmed to the New York Times. Below, the latest updates.
Initial reports
June 18, 1:00 p.m.: Justin Timberlake was in the Hamptons when the Sag Harbor police force picked him up for drunk driving. TMZ reported that JT had been partying at the American Hotel, got in his car, blew a stop sign, and started swerving around, so the cops stopped him at around 12:30 a.m. Allegedly, some of Timberlake’s friends showed up and tried to convince the cops not to book him. That morning, he appeared in court and was ultimately released without bail, per TMZ. His hearing is currently set for July 26, per People. Timberlake is on tour and has two dates in Chicago this weekend. Luckily, we don’t think he planned to drive himself there anyway.
Sources at the scene
June 18, 5:00 p.m.: According to the criminal report of the incident, obtained by the New York Post, while talking to the officers Timberlake claimed he’d had only one martini. Other reports from the Post have called Timberlake “wasted” and said that he was stealing other people’s drinks. While pulled over, Timberlake refused three times to take a breathalyzer test and failed a field sobriety test. “His eyes were bloodshot and glassy, a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from his breath, he was unable to divide attention, he had slowed speech, he was unsteady afoot, and he performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests,” the report said.
Adding insult to … more drunken insults was the fact the arresting cop didn’t know who Timberlake was. Apparently, Timberlake muttered under his breath that “this is going to ruin the tour,’’ to which the officer replied “What tour?” leading Timberlake to clarify, “The world tour.” Not necessarily something a pop icon wants to have to clarify.
