What’s Up With Bradley Cooper’s Beard?

I’m sorry if that big photo of Bradley Cooper scared you. It definitely startled me when I saw it this morning. On Monday, Cooper was spotted walking around New York City with a huge patch of his beard missing. Why? Well, that’s a great question now isn’t it?

My first guess was that this obviously must be for a role. Perhaps he’s playing … well, it’s hard to guess who might have that kind of facial hair other than an eccentric multi-hyphenate preparing for a role. Having checked both regular IMDb and IMDbPro, it doesn’t appear that Cooper is currently filming a movie. Nor is he slated to make his big return to TV in an Alias reboot (this facial hair would make sense as a disguise, though).

So, this doesn’t seem to be professional facial hair — although I guess he could be filming another wacky Talenti ad. Is it possible that he’s lost a bet? That’s something men like to do, right?  Cooper is a Philadelphia sports guy, and with the NFL season over and the Sixers getting knocked out of the playoffs by the Knicks last month, all of his energy is probably focused on the Phillies.

Now, if you don’t follow baseball you should know that the Phillies are really good right now. The Mets, on the other hand, are flopping as usual. Cooper’s beloved Phillies played the Mets on Sunday, and common sense suggested that the NYC team was going to lose. Pretty good game to take a bet on, perhaps one that involved you looking ridiculous in front of the paparazzi should you lose. Do you see where I’m going here?

The Mets beat the Phillies on Sunday, 6–5. If I had to guess, I would say that Cooper, who lives in New York and undoubtedly knows lots of Mets fans, had bet someone that the Phillies would win and because he lost he had to expose his chin to the world. Although, who knows! Maybe I’ve put too many strings on the corkboard and Cooper is just experimenting with strong personal-style choices. Remember when he wore that Ellen underwear?
