Barney Greengrass

Brule Laker has added a photo to the pool:

Despite eating here in February 2023, the family voted to return for lunch after our tour of The Met. The deli originally opened in 1908 at W. 113th Street and St. Nicholas Avenue. It moved to its current location at W. 86th Street and Amsterdam Avenue in 1929. In 1938, Greengrass was given the nickname "The Sturgeon King" by State Senator and Tammany Hall stalwart James J. Frawley. After Barney’s death in 1955, the restaurant was run by his son Marvin ("Moe") and his wife Shirley. After Moe’s death in 2001, his son Gary Greengrass took over management responsibility.
