A great woman once said, “Big mistake. Big. Huge!” That woman was not former Real Housewife and Skinnygirl Margarita creator Bethenny Frankel, but she sure would like it to be. Frankel is fuming about getting turned away from a Chanel store in Chicago, where she was told she couldn’t come in because she didn’t have an appointment.
In an Instagram video posted Wednesday, Frankel announced that she had tried to swing by the Chanel store on a whim, writing in the caption that she was “straight of a plane in a sweaty tshirt and not dolled up or looking wealthy.” Apparently, a security guard opened the door a crack (“Ratatouille couldn’t fit in there,” she described) and asked her if she had an appointment. “I’m like, ‘I have a credit card, I have a bag of Garrett’s popcorn, a basic-bitch purse — am I not allowed to come in at 3:54 on a Tuesday?’” she said.

She apparently was not, and she is now furious about being “treated like you’re an interloper” because, she believes, she wasn’t dressed nicely. In the caption, Frankel acknowledged that “crime is at an all-time high” but called the experience “rudeness and elitist and exclusionary, which is also a crime.” She deemed Chanel a “beautiful brand with timeless classic pieces,” adding that “being kind to customers of all socioeconomic backgrounds is also timeless and classic.”
In a second video posted Thursday, Frankel returned to the Chanel store in a chauffeured car wearing what appears to be the brand’s own tweed skirt suit, pearl headband, and purse. After a few seconds with the security guards, she was swiftly ushered inside, reemerging seconds later to tell her cameraman, “No problem today.” I guess watching Bravo should be mandatory for Chanel’s security guards?
