BAFTA TV Awards Refuse The Crown

Netflix must be saying “We are not amused” after perennial awards faves The Crown and Black Mirror were both shut out at the BAFTA TV awards. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts splits their awards into film and television ceremonies — the former happening in February before the Oscars, and the latter taking place Sunday. There tends to be less correlation between Emmy and BAFTA winners than the Oscars/BAFTA voting block. For example, Timothy Spall in The Sixth Commandment beat Brian Cox’s final season of Succession for Leading Actor. Logan’s death lost the P&O Cruises Memorable Moment Award (something akin to the Oscars’ Most Cheer-worthy Moment). And a French show beat Succession and The Bear for Best International Show. Comedian Joe Lycett won Best Entertainment Performance, beating out Ted Lasso’s Hannah Waddingham for her work hosting Eurovision. A complete winners list is below.
