Congratulations are in order! In a Vogue essay published Thursday, Tommy Dorfman revealed the identity of her partner and announced that the couple secretly eloped in the fall of 2023. “I married my best friend and didn’t tell anyone except @hunterabrams who came and photographed us towards the end of last year,” Dorfman wrote in an Instagram post from the same day. “We bought our own dresses @doverstreetmarketnewyork where i used to work before acting, and it was perfect.”
According to the 13 Reasons Why alum, the pair met in 2021 on the dating app Hinge and got engaged after two months of dating (“To our credit, we waited a full 12 months before moving in together, so you can’t say we U-Hauled,” she noted). Her then-fianceé Elise was far more private than Tommy: Elise, whose account is private, still doesn’t follow her partner on Instagram, and is not interested in notoriety or fame. After Dorfman accidentally mentioned an unnamed fianceé during a podcast recording in 2022, they agreed to keep their relationship out of the limelight for Elise’s sake. Which is in part why when they later eloped, they do so in secret.

Some time last fall, Dorfman says she and Elise were hanging out in Malibu when they discovered there was a concierge same-day marriage service based out of Los Angeles. Also of note, she added, was that “California was the only state that offered confidential marriage services, meaning our papers wouldn’t be in the public record and nobody would know we got married.” They decided to go through with the ceremony: A man came to their Santa Monica hotel and married them that day.
“That’s the thing about falling in love though; your responsibility barometer isn’t always where it should be,” Dorfman writes. “Love, for us, required that nauseating combination of naiveté, delusion and fate.”
