CANCER RESEARCH: Northwell Health and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory renewed a strategic partnership on Monday to translate basic cancer research into clinical trials and treatments. Through the partnership, which began in 2015, Northwell provides clinical trial resources and physician-scientists to the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory to advance bioscientific oncology research, drawing from its annual cancer patient population of 20,000, said Dr. Richard Barakat, director of cancer care at Northwell. The health system will invest $150 million into the partnership over the next 10 years.

CYBER FALLOUT: Attorney General Letitia James joined a coalition of 22 states on Monday urging health care giant UnitedHealth to support providers and patients that have been harmed by the recent cyber attack on its subsidiary Change Healthcare. The coalition pressed the Minnetonka, Minnesota-based company to enhance financial assistance and suspend prior authorization requirements to help providers patch gaps in care, noting that millions of patients nationwide have reported delays in care and prescription denials due to a hack that shut down the claims processing company in February.

DOH MOVES: Adam Herbst, deputy commissioner of aging and long-term care at the state Health Department, announced his resignation from the agency over the weekend. Herbst, who served in the role for four years, also led the state’s effort to devise a Master Plan for Aging, a set of policy recommendations to address health care and quality-of-life needs for older New Yorkers and their caregivers. The Master Plan for Aging is expected to be complete in 2025.
