Understanding Listeria

Listeria are bacteria that can contaminate various foods. Common symptoms of listeriosis, the infection caused by listeria, include⁤ fever, muscle⁤ aches, and tiredness. Those affected ⁤may also experience ⁤headaches, a stiff⁢ neck, confusion, loss ‍of balance, or seizures. Symptoms can appear on⁤ the same day the⁣ contaminated ⁤food is eaten, but typically manifest ‌within two weeks of ⁢consumption. While listeria rarely leads to severe illness for ‍most‌ people, ⁤it poses‌ a heightened risk for individuals over the age of 65, ‍those with ⁣weakened immune ⁣systems, and pregnant individuals.
