BUILDING SALE: Mount Sinai’s Beth Israel Medical Center on the Lower East Side sold a six-unit apartment building located at 329 E. 17th Street for $3.1 million last week, records show. The hospital sold the building to the Sabet Group, a firm that owns properties across Lower Manhattan. Mount Sinai is planning to shutter Beth Israel’s main campus by July 12, citing financial losses of roughly $200 million in 2022.

STRIKE AVERTED: More than 900 hospital workers who work at Northwell Health’s Phelps Hospital in Westchester reached a tentative contract with their employer Thursday, averting a planned strike, according to labor union 1199 SEIU. The tentative agreement, which covers nurses, food service workers, housekeeping staff and others, raises wages, offers no-cost family health insurance and provides secure pensions to hospital employees. Workers will vote to ratify the contract next week.

HEAT SAFETY: Mayor Eric Adams and New York City Emergency Management Commissioner Zach Iscol announced a plan on Thursday to expand city cooling centers and ramp up heat safety messaging as the summer months approach. The city pledged to open cooling centers in cultural spaces and elected officials’ offices to improve access, create pet-friendly cooling centers through a partnership with Petco and distribute indoor thermometers to older adults to help them monitor the temperature of their homes. Roughly 350 New Yorkers die prematurely from heat-related illnesses every summer, according to city data.
