NYU Langone opens 18,000 square-foot outpatient clinic near Penn Station

Health system NYU Langone has opened a new outpatient clinic near Penn Station, part of an effort to cement its footprint in the city’s developing Midtown neighborhoods, the organization announced today.

NYU’s multispecialty clinic, located at 360 W. 31st St., spans 18,000 square feet and has 25 exam rooms, three of which are designated for outpatient procedures such as colonoscopies. The clinic is located at the corner of Ninth Ave. and across the street from Moynihan Station.

The facility is staffed by 15 physicians specializing in internal and family medicine, endocrinology, gastroenterology, orthopedic surgery, podiatry and urology, among other specialties.

NYU’s move to expand its outpatient footprint around Penn Station comes as developers like Vornado have invested millions to transform the neighborhood. New developments led NYU to open a clinic in the area, said Andrew Rubin, senior vice president for clinical affairs and ambulatory care at NYU Langone.

Rubin, who has lived in Hudson Yards for the last five years, said that the availability of health care providers in the area hasn’t evolved as developments like Penn District and Manhattan West took off, making the neighborhood surrounding Penn Station the “perfect outpost.” He noted that the clinic sits at a cross-section of the corporate districts where patients live, work and commute, and expects it to serve between 40,000 and 50,000 patients a year.

NYU Langone has long touted its growth of outpatient clinics and physician practices, with Rubin describing the system as “an ambulatory health care network with a few hospitals.” The health system has pivoted to performing surgeries and other procedures in physician offices and clinics as more health procedures move outside of hospitals.

Rubin declined to provide the terms of NYU’s lease agreement. The clinic dwells on a floor that was previously vacant WeWork office space, which positioned the health system for a good deal, he said.

NYU Langone recorded more than $2 billion in operating revenue last year. The health system has six inpatient facilities and more than 300 outpatient locations across New York City.
