For Saturday Night Live’s Mother’s Day show, it was only fitting that Maya Rudolph hosted — because Maya Rudolph is mother. Yes, she’s a mother of four, but as Bowen Yang and Sarah Sherman explained to her during her monologue, she’s also mother. “You were the first to slay the house down boots queen,” Bowen tells her. “Me? Mother?” she laughs, “You’re right.” After a quick-change into a bejeweled body suit, and introduction from the emcee (Kenan Thompson), Rudolph launched into an iconic RuPaul-esque song as the “Mother of the House of Rockefeller.” Voguing through Studio 8H like it was a ballroom, she even gave us an SNL-themed twist on the “Vogue”/”Break My Soul (The Queen’s Remix)” bridge: “Baba Wawa, Debbie D, Sweeney Sisters, and Gilly / Martha Stewart gave good hair, Mary Catherine Gallagher / Schweddy Balls and Donatella, Lisa from Temecula / Giving gorgeous, serving pretty, they did it live from New York City.”
