There were plenty of beauty moments on the Met Gala red carpet tonight and no, I’m not talking about everyone who put flowers in their hair. From the hair to the makeup, these celebrities had the best beauty looks of the night.
Best Side Part: Naomi Campbell
Naomi is known for her go-to hairstyle: a sleek, middle-part jet-black buss down. But, tonight she opted for a side part. It’s still just as sleek and frames her face effortlessly. Could this be a new style for her? Probably not. She’s loyal to her middle part. But for one night, the side part looks great on her.
Best Makeup: Doja Cat
One thing about Doja Cat is that she’s going to have fun. Her makeup was a fantastical take on running mascara from teary eyes. “We used glitter to paint shimmering, enchanted tears of joy streaming down her cheeks,” Pat McGrath said. As always, she’s the one person who doesn’t take anything too seriously. And we are here for it.
Best Face Jewels: FKA Twigs
We’ve seen a few face jewels added to eyelids, but a face full of jewels like constellations on FKA Twigs was new. And the jewels didn’t stop on her skin, they continued all the way up to her shaved head.
Best Galliano-inspired Glam: Zendaya
From the thin eyebrows to the excessive eyeshadow and deep plum lip, this look draws inspiration from Pat McGrath’s viral Maison Margiela look at their show earlier this year. Zendaya is wearing Maison Margiela by John Galliano so it only makes sense.
Best Flushed Cheeks: Tyla
For Tyla’s first Met Gala, she wore a Balmain dress molded to her body with beachy hair and a fresh glow. “The inspiration behind her overall look was the ‘sands of time’, so her makeup was based all around sparkling sepia and brown tones,” McGrath said. Her skin had a bronzy radiance, but the standout moment of her makeup was her flushed cheeks achieved with Pat McGrath’s cream blush balm.
Best Use of Color: Cardi B
Cardi B shut down the red carpet with her massive dress, but the details like a green waterline eyeliner that matched her colored contacts and complemented by her green nails, really took the look to the next level. If her dress were another color it might’ve been too much, but juxtaposed against her black dress, the unpredictable pops of green created a full moment.
Best Glow (As Always): Anok Yai
When wearing a catsuit embellished with 98,000 Swarovski crystals, it’s hard to interpret what to do for glam because … you are the glamour. For Anok Yai she went with a glowy finish on her skin, but what stole the show was her blinding purple, iridescent-like blush highlighter. When it comes to glowing skin, she is always in our top five.
Best Bangs: Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj will always be a bangs girl. Her overly thick bangs in 2010 became the trend of the time. Not only her bangs, but her entire look is nostalgic of old Nicki from the bangs, to the bun to her Pink Friday press-on nails.
Best Messy Bun: Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez is the queen of effortless glam. Her messy bun slicked back against her natural glam was easy, but still charming. Her stylist, Lorenzo Martin, used a Shark FlexStyle to dry her hair into a ponytail before adding texture to it and teasing it with a Tangle Teezer detangling brush.
Best Smoky Eye: Emma Chamberlain
This wasn’t your normal smokey eye; it has the normal edge of a smokey eye but blended with bronzy shadows. It’s predictable for Emma, but it always looks great on her.
Best Red Lip: Gigi Hadid
There weren’t many bold lip color choices this year on the red carpet. Most celebrities played it safe with a toned-down nude, but Gigi Hadid showed up with a bright red lip and a short, flipped blonde hairstyle. The look was reminiscent of old Hollywood glam. Well done, Gigi.
Taylor Russell: Best Skin
Taylor Russell’s skin was almost camouflaged to her 3D molded bodice mimicking a wood effect. It was poreless, glassy and radiant.
Best Eyelashes: Cynthia Erivio
There are lashes and then there are lashes. Insert Cynthia Erivio and her long wispy top and bottom lashes. These lashes against her glistening pink eyeshadow were the best lash moment on the carpet. The whimsicality of the wispiness was a fun juxtaposition to her look.
