BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CONNECTIONS: New York City Health + Hospitals has provided nearly 14,000 patients with behavioral health care through its Virtual ExpressCare telehealth service since it launched in 2022, the health system announced Wednesday. Patients who are experiencing anxiety, depression, substance use disorder and emotional distress can use Virtual ExpressCare to connect with providers all day, every day in more than 200 languages. According to H+H, the system provides almost 60% of behavioral health services citywide each year through inpatient, outpatient and telehealth care.

 

PITCH COMPETITION: Hackensack Meridian Health has launched a pitch competition for Ireland-based health care startups, the Edison, New Jersey-based health system announced Wednesday. The system will select three winners out of the pitches received and connect founders with partnership and piloting opportunities and investments in an effort to advance health care innovation. Hackensack is partnering with Choose NJ, an economic development corporation, on the competition; the application deadline is May 15.

CLINIC CLOSURES: Walmart plans to close all of its 51 Walmart Health clinics across the country as well as its virtual care platform, Modern Healthcare reports. The company attributed its decision to a difficult reimbursement environment and rising operating costs, and said some clinics will remain open for up to 90 days. The centers provided patients with primary and behavioral health care, dental care, X-rays and telehealth services.
