SOCIAL WORKERS HONORED: New York City Health + Hospitals recently honored 43 social workers for their commitment to their patients, H+H announced Friday. The employees were nominated by their colleagues and chosen from a pool of more than 400 nominees. The winners work at each of H+H’s 11 hospitals, five of its post-acute care facilities and seven of its Gotham Health community health centers, as well as its Correctional Health Services Department.

PLAN PROTEST: Elected officials, elderly and disabled New Yorkers and health care associations rallied in Albany Friday, protesting lawmakers’ plan to streamline New York’s $9 billion home care program. The advocates argue that the plan, which would require just one fiscal intermediary to manage the state’s entire program in an effort to cut costs, would limit care options for patients and cause some to lose services.

BETH ISRAEL MARCH: Doctors, nurses and patients protested the looming closure of Mount Sinai Beth Israel at a community event outside the hospital Saturday. They argued that the hospital, which is currently slated to close in July, is a necessary community resource for the East Village and surrounding neighborhoods. The Save Beth Israel and New York Eye & Ear Campaign, a group of advocates and community members, sponsored the event.
